FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions for Three Sons Meat Market

Is your beef grass fed?

According to USDA standards, our beef is naturally raised and is not considered grass fed. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that meat sold and labeled as grass fed must be ONLY forage fed for its entire life. At Clay Godfrey Farms and Three Sons Meat, we feed our cows a healthy balance of grains along with grasses. We use no growth hormones or routine antibiotics, so you can be assured that your meat is free of added chemicals.

What is the advantage of naturally raised beef?

Naturally raised beef are fed grains which provide them with much needed protein. This helps the cows build muscle and marbling, developing healthy cows and tasty beef.

How can I buy your meat?

Our meat can be purchased at our market store at Eastern Market on Fridays or directly from our farm in Seven Valleys, Pa. We have individually wrapped fresh and frozen meat available. Whole, half, or quarter beef are also available upon request. Please call for details.

Can I call an order in ahead and stop in later to pick it up?

Yes, you are welcome to call us an order. Just let us know when you are planning to pick it up, and we will do our best to have it ready for you. Placing an order in advance is especially helpful for freezer bundle orders.

What is the advantage of buying locally grown meat?

The trust that consumers have in the food system is diminishing. In order to feed our growing population, food is often imported from countries with lower standards for animal health and sanitation. When you buy meat from Clay Godfrey Farms and Three Sons Meat, you can rest assured that it is safe, trustworthy, and reliable.

Where do your beef cows come from?

Our animals are raised on a cow-calf operation on our farm. A cow-calf operations means that our calves stay with their mothers in the pasture until they reach a mature weight. We also purchase cows from local growers when we are unable to supply our own. Either way, our meat is raised naturally and contains no added growth hormone or routine antibiotics.

Where do your hogs come from?

Since we do not raise hogs at Clay Godfrey Farms and Three Sons Meat, we purchase them from local growers.
